Vision

To create a more transparent, digitally-empowered, and teacher-first union culture that uplifts every educator’s dignity, welfare, and career trajectory.

Vision

MY TEACHER FIRST & CENTERED MANIFESTO

My manifesto is anchored on Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely (S.M.A.R.T) commitments that center on teacher welfare, transparency, digital transformation, and service-oriented unionism.

Manifesto
Database

1. Enhanced Member Communication through a Digital Database

Develop a secure members' database for direct SMS/email communications, moving beyond unreliable and unstructured WhatsApp groups.

MPESA

2. Direct Allowance Payment via MPESA

Champion for allowances to be paid instantly via MPESA based on automated attendance tracking—ending manual delays and enhancing accountability.

AGM

3. Blended (Online + Physical) AGM Participation

Ensure AGMs are accessible online (Zoom/Google Meet) for broader participation and cost-effectiveness.

Events

4. Organize Social and Networking Events for Teachers

Establish wellness events like team-building retreats and sports tournaments to foster teacher cohesion and mental wellness.

Legal

5. Proper Budgeting with Strong Legal Support

Initiate a legal defense fund to protect teachers when deductions are irregular or dues are withheld.

Leadership

6. Harmonious Leadership for Teachers’ Welfare

Maintain respectful collaboration with elected officials to prioritize teachers’ needs over internal politics.

Empowerment

7. Empowering Teachers in Decision-Making

Deploy tech tools (apps, bulk SMS) to collect teachers’ opinions before union decisions are finalized.

Constitution

8. Teachers’ Participation in Constitutional Matters

Enable members to give input on union constitutional changes through surveys and digital platforms.

Honesty

9. Uphold Honesty and Selflessness in Service

Run a transparent and teacher-first office grounded in honesty and ethical leadership.

Digital

10. Leverage Emerging Digital Technologies

Support implementation of e-voting, digital registration, and online grievance systems to modernize KUPPET operations.

Medical

11. Push for Better Medical Cover for Teachers

Challenge inefficient Minet/SHA health contracts and advocate for access to quality healthcare.

Lesson

12. End Unfair Teaching Beyond the 9th Lesson

Defend teachers from exploitation by enforcing strict adherence to official teaching limits.

JSS

13. Champion for JSS Teachers on Internship

Advocate for urban hardship allowances, medical cover, and quick confirmation for Nairobi-based JSS interns.

JSS Leadership

14. Push for Independent Leadership of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS)

Demand JSSs be managed independently from primary schools, resisting corruption in headship appointments.

Merit

15. Fight for Merit-Based TSC Promotions and Employment

Ensure fair and transparent promotion processes across gender and qualifications.

Voting

16. Leverage Digital Technology for Voting

Introduce online voting for teacher convenience, transparency, and lower election costs.

Housing

17. Advocate for Teachers’ Slots in Affordable Housing Projects

Secure fair housing allocations for teachers in national housing schemes.

Sports

18. Independence of JSS Sports Activities (Additional Manifesto)

Advocate for Junior Secondary Schools to manage their own sports programs—autonomous from primary school leadership in terms of training, scheduling, and venues (Separate sporting calendars and venues)—to ensure JSS students receive appropriate, focused athletic development.

Awareness

19. Awareness and Prevention Forums

I will initiate structured national and regional forums to openly address issues surrounding immoral conduct allegations, especially those arising from teacher-student interactions. These forums will aim to create awareness, educate teachers, and develop proactive strategies to prevent misconduct and false accusations.

Policy

20. Policy Review and Legal Reform Advocacy

Many teachers, have faced harsh interdictions or deregistration often without fair hearing due to current legal limitations. I will advocate for a research-driven review of the legal definition of the age of innocence. Countries such as the UK, Scotland, Vietnam, and Cuba have set the age of consent at 16. We must push for Kenya to adopt a similar age benchmark, guided by credible research and best international practices, to ensure justice for both students and teachers.

Facilitation

21. Enhanced Facilitation for Teachers in Co-Curricular and Sports Activities

Teachers play a critical role in mentoring and coaching students during sports and co-curricular events but often lack sufficient support. I will champion for structured facilitation including transport, meals, training kits, and official recognition to empower teachers participating in zonal, county, and national school games. A well-supported teacher means a well-prepared student athlete.

KNEC

22. Improved Allowances and Welfare for KNEC-Contracted Teachers

Teachers contracted by KNEC for exam invigilation, marking, and supervision deserve better. I will advocate for timely payments, increased allowances, and improved working conditions during exam periods. This includes fair rates for transport, meals, and accommodation where applicable. Teachers must be respected and fairly compensated for their contribution to national exams.

Transport

23. Teacher Polling Station Transport Support

KUPPET will provide transportation for teachers to and from polling stations during elections. This will curb voter bribery, boost teacher voter turnout, and remove the financial burden from aspirants, giving equal opportunity to all candidates.

Integrity

24. Integrity and Dignity in Union Politics

KUPPET will establish strict policies promoting clean campaigns. Aspirants will engage teachers through ideas and manifestos, not handouts or token gifts, ensuring fairness, professionalism, and respect in union politics.
